Sancta Sophia College
Sancta Sophia College was established in 1926 as a Catholic residential college for undergraduate women and post graduate men and women within the University of Sydney. The College provides accommodation for 160 fulltime undergraduate and graduate students and offers a secure environment and a supportive community that pursues a tradition of academic excellence and provides opportunities for scholars to reach their full potential in every aspect of their lives. The College promotes the intellectual and personal development of students in a Christian environment within the Catholic tradition.
The College provides an extensive tutorial program directed by the Vice Principal and notes that each year members of College are recognized for academic distinction on the University of Sydney Honour Roll. College life is enhanced by a weekly Formal Dinner program, the annual visit by the Visitor to the College, the Archbishop of Sydney and the annual Academic Dinner in the presence of the Chancellor of the University of Sydney. The College also hosts several Faculty and alumnae Dinners during term.
There is a regular Sunday Mass conducted in the College Chapel and a Meditation group gather there on Tuesday evenings. The College choir performs at weekly Mass. College life is renowned for its social diversions, for its cultural program that includes debating, oratory, music and drama and for its intercollegiate sporting challenge.
