Charitable Works in 2008

"Faith working through love."

This year, the Chaplaincy, in collaboration with the student societies, will be expanding our charitable works program under the theme “Faith working through love.” We have set ourselves some ambitious targets, but with the grace of God we are confident that hearts will open to assist the many in need who rely on Christian charity.

Projects planned for 2008:
1st Semester: Project Compassion Lenten Appeal.
St Vincent de Paul: students and staff will be asked to bring in one bag of old clothes or toys in support of the annual Winter Appeal.

2nd Semester: Pontifical Missions Appeal: a one-off collection will be made from students and staff to support the on-going missionary efforts of the Church in Australia and overseas.

Christmas Hamper Appeal: students and staff will be asked to bring in one item of packaged food/drink or toys each week over three weeks. The items collected will be packaged into beautiful hampers and given to St Vincent de Paul to distribute as Christmas gifts to needy families.

"For the Church, charity is not a kind of welfare activity which
should be left to others, but is a part of her very nature, an
indispensable expression of her very being."

Pope Benedict XVI
